Starting at around 3,000,- EUR, you can acquire an in-house movement watch and that’s the kind of price that is way under what the vast majority of Swiss competitors are pitching. While many people finance a smartphone over a period of two years, Frederique Constant is serving up something that’s really going to be forever. Even though the design of the collection is swimming in nostalgia, the timekeepers from this collection still remain very modern.įrederique Constant broken down in numbers 4: A low four figure priceįrederique Constant represents approachable luxury for the everyman who knows exactly how to appreciate a beautiful watch. The Vintage Rally collection conjures the memory of the famous English Rally driver, Donald Healey, which is why both the GMT version (40 mm) and the chronograph (42 mm) have the Healey logo tagged on their dials. A cosmopolitan timepiece with an air of elegance and fashion. It is offered in a version with a moon phase display (Runabout Moonphase) and as a chronograph. The Runabout collection is very reminiscent of the legendary Runabout boats. A Double or Single Heart provides an inside view of the mechanical workings of the watch and there are models available with a stainless steel or a gold case. Its dial is often artistically decorated with guilloche. The automatic ladies watch in this collection emits elegance and charm. Instead of a rotating bezel, two inside wheels display the current time from all other 23 displayed cities. As per usual with world time watches, the Worldtimer’s world dial map sets the overall tone. With the Worldtimer Frederique Constant also offers a GMT watch. The guilloche dials are ornate and decorated, usually with Roman numbers and curved blue hands. While the Slim Line embodies the elegance of a modern time dress watch, the Classics series is based more on the Baroque period. The designs of the Slim Line are in no way intrusive and the dials are kept simple and minimised. Today, the guiding theme of “less is more” is placed right at the forefront, sometimes in the form of applied hour indices and long drawn-out, leaf-shaped hands. The design of the Slim Line takes after the traditions of the dress watch competition of Jaeger-LeCoultre Master or the Zenith Elite and in terms of craftsmanship and detail variety, are right up to snuff. the Zodiac with Chinese characters replacing the hour indices, a scratch resistant convex sapphire glass, a tourbillon model, and Classic as well as Slim Line models with manufacture movements. There’s also a lot of other variety being showcased by Frederique Constant e.g. A special feature of many Manufacture models is the analogue date display located at the bottom of the dial. The Heartbeat Manufacture launch caused quite a lot of commotion, because its dial provides a view of the balance wheel. Its name probably gave it away already the Manufacture collection only incorporates entirely in-house produced movements. Frederique Constant Collection Manufacture Heads up people: There’s a new Swiss wind blowing through town and its name is Frederique Constant. There’s a recipe for success at work here and it’s not banking on any grace periods for rookies. It truly is remarkable that the manufacturer has achieved so much in the space of just a quarter of a century. Yet, the brand offers a wide variety of in-house calibers in Frederique Constant’s very convincing Manufacture lineup.Įven though it doesn’t have the extensive experience of other companies, Frederique Constant is outputting some very interesting products and has even added some nice signature brand twists e.g. Really, who can argue with that? Compared to other companies, Frederique Constant has only been blipping on the radar for a short span of time. This company was first founded in 1988, and its guiding theme has been to offer attractive luxury watches at equally attractive prices. When taking in the beautiful design and refined finish of a Frederique Constant watch, one might imagine its price is at least three times more than it actually is. But within a few days, Alex has to take a trip down to San Javier during spring break, the town that is the native place of his late father. The bullies make fun of the food that Alex brings for lunch, among many other things, and the boy, too, is fed up with his Mexican roots. Alex hails from a Mexican family and is evidently treated like the odd one out among his white schoolmates. The focus now shifts to a middle school in Kansas City, USA, where a young teenager, Alex, is struggling to fit in. The news of a suspected new animal, one that preys on the blood of goats and other domestic animals, spreads all over the continent and the world, with the local name “El Chupacabra” being used. Although the adult chupacabra, most likely the mother, succeeds in keeping its offspring safe from humans, the baby runs onto an open road nearby and is hit by a speeding car. As Quinn and his men try to get hold of a baby chupacabra, an adult creature comes in to protect it, and an intense chase follows. However, the appearance that is given to the creatures here is quite different from the usual portrayals of them, for chupacabras in “Chupa” are essentially felines with wings that have unique, blue-tipped feathers. The animal they are in search of happens to be the mythical chupacabra, an apparently demonic beast that kills domestic animals by sucking on their blood. Three men, headed by the leader of the research unit, Quinn, soon spot a small creature running past and are sure to have found their target. The film begins in 1996, deep inside an ancient cave in San Javier, Mexico, when a group of researchers are in search of what they believe to be a rare animal species. ‘Chupa’ Plot Summary: What Is The Film About? However, Oliver Grasset subsequently left the band and was replaced by Berhard Hoetzl and after Skyscraper were unable to find a satisfactory new long-term recording contract, in autumn 1995 (encouraged by and in partnership with their friend Robin Proper Sheppard, singer/guitarist with The God Machine (band) and Sophia (British band) and also owner of The Flower Shop record label) they formed their own imprint, Dynosupreme Records, with the intention of both managing themselves and releasing their own products. Once more, this was made 'Single Of The Week' by Kerrang!, courtesy of guest reviewers Gregor Mackintosh and Nick Holmes of Paradise Lost (band) and was also an independent hit. It would not be until April 1995 that Skyscraper released any new material when the Never Again EP was issued through a one-off deal with independent label Scared Hitless. Independent releases and line up changes Despite being awarded 'Single Of The Week' status by Kerrang!, and the promo video receiving plays on UK TV, at the end of June 1994, Skyscraper were dropped by the Food/EMI label and the band's contract was terminated. Despite the success of these appearances (with the band's line up augmented by the temporary addition of a second guitarist, Andrew ‘Fuzz’ DuPrey of Silverfish (band)) which were well received by the UK rock press, with one magazine stating in an enthusiastic review that "Skyscraper look like they are about to inherit the world", the Man Made Hell EP was not released by Food/EMI until the end of May. Although Skyscraper's debut album for the label was technically complete, the band recorded two new tracks early in the year and although a third EP was scheduled for release in early 1994, this was pushed back to April to coincide with a series of live dates Skyscraper had secured as special guests to Killing Joke. In 1994, EMI Records gained a controlling stake in Food Records, although label boss (and Skyscraper A&R representative) Andy Ross was running the label. Skyscraper ended the year as special guests to Therapy? and Cop Shoot Cop on a short run of UK dates in early December. RAW magazine boldly proclaimed that "if Rage Against The Machine liked metal one little bit, they'd be as good as Lovesick is", and the band embarked on a three-week co-headlining tour with labelmates Mint 400 which was sponsored by BBC Radio One. The second single "Lovesick" was released in November 1993. The EP was an independent chart hit and Skyscraper toured the UK extensively in support of the release, both as headliners in their own right as well as playing opening slots for Helmet (band), The God Machine (band), Mega City Four, Medicine (band) and others, as well as also appearing at the 1993 Phoenix Festival. It's awesome", while the NME referred to it as a ". The electronic underlay applied to the production lead to UK music magazine Melody Maker to describe it as "Industrial Grunge: like Ministry performed by humans. One of the tracks from this session became the lead track of the band's first EP Choke which was released on Incoherent Records (a subsidiary of Food Records, which was co-owned by EMI Records) in July 1993. In early 1993, the band entered Monnow Valley studios, to start the first of two recording sessions with producer Roli Mosimann. After making their live debut at London venue The Falcon in October 1992, the band soon raised their profile further by signing to Food Records, appearing as support to Rage Against the Machine and recording a session for John Peel's radio show in February 1993. Although the band's music was superficially similar to the grunge style that was popular at the time, it contained a melodic inventiveness and a characteristically unusual guitar style, which brought the band swift attention. The line up was completed by drummer Oliver Grasset. Skyscraper were formed in autumn 1992 by guitarist/vocalist Vic Kemlicz, formerly of the London band Milk and ex- Swervedriver bass guitarist Adi Vines. the best debut by far of any British rock band in recent years". The band were favourites of the UK rock press, with Metal Hammer magazine calling Skyscraper's 1995 album Superstate ". They released three singles on Food Records (the first two through label subsidiary Incoherent Records) and two albums and one single on their own Dynosupreme Records, also touring the UK extensively and appearing on MTV and British national radio. They were replaced by pneumatic valve springs introduced by Renault in 1986, which inherently have a rising rate (progressive rate) that allowed them to have an extremely high spring rate at larger valve strokes without much increasing the driving power requirements at smaller strokes, thus lowering the overall power loss. The speed required to operate the engine valves at a higher rpm called for ever stiffer springs, which increased the power required to drive the camshaft and the valves to the point where the loss nearly offset the power gain through the increase in rpm. Until the mid-1980s Formula One engines were limited to around 12,000 rpm due to the traditional metal springs used to close the valves. The basic configuration of a naturally aspirated Formula One engine had not been greatly modified since the 1967 Ford Cosworth DFV and the mean effective pressure had stayed at around 14 bar. This contrasts with road car engines of a similar size, which typically operate at less than 6,000 rpm. However, they are electronically limited to 15,000 as of 2021 season. The power a Formula One engine produces is generated by operating at a very high rotational speed, up to 20,000 revolutions per minute (rpm). They were introduced in 2014 and have been developed over the subsequent seasons. Formula One currently uses 1.6 litre four-stroke turbocharged 90 degree V6 double-overhead camshaft (DOHC) reciprocating engines. The one most commonly associated with 3D printing is STL (.stl), which is exported by most 3D modeling software programs. For this reason, a standardized file format is used. If 3D slicers were to handle all these different formats, they would require a huge support base, but even so, they certainly cannot cover all modeling software. The problem is that each digital file created with a particular CAD tool has a specific format, such as "Blend" (.blend) for Blender and "part" and "assembly" (.sldprt and. You can create digital 3D models using a wide variety of CAD software, ranging from the artistic and open source Blender to the professional and highly technical SolidWorks. To successfully prepare a model for 3D printing, the slicer requires two different inputs: the 3D model itself and the set of print parameters that tell the machine how the actual printing should be done. Requirements Each slicer requires two inputs (Source: MakerBot ) But what's really going on behind that tidy user interface? Let's take a look at what we need to have a successful slicer experience. In most cases, as we will see later, they even generate G-code commands.ģD slicing procedures may seem simple to anyone who has printed a 3D model. Although there are many different ways to "talk" to these machines, the predominant language is G-code, which is used in various types of manufacturing systems.Īlthough 3D slicers are not strictly categorized as CAM software, they perform the same function in the 3D printing process in that they output digital files containing detailed instructions for the printer to execute. As the name suggests, the commands entered control all aspects of the machine, including movement speeds, temperatures, and cooling. These instructions are transmitted in the form of command lines, commonly referred to as computer numerical control (CNC). In effect, it serves as a bridge between digital 3D models (produced by computer aided design or CAD) and manufacturing systems by converting drawings into instructions for the machine to execute. CAM is computer software that assists, facilitates or automates manufacturing processes. Let's start! Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) Although slicers are not CAM software, they play the same role in 3D printing processes (Source: Autodesk )Īlthough not usually associated with slicing software, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) is useful in our understanding of what a slicer does. In this article, we'll discuss the role of slicers in 3D printing, detail how 3D slicing works for FDM and resin, and finally conclude with slicing in other 3D printing technologies. The Slicer software is therefore aptly named because it effectively 'slices' 3D models into many horizontal 2D layers that will later be printed, one at a time. In addition to the model itself, the instructions contain user-input 3D printing parameters such as layer height, speed, and support structure settings.Īny 3D printing technology creates 3D objects by adding material layer by layer. Learn all about this essential software in 3D printing.Ī slicer is a program that converts digital 3D models into printing instructions for a given 3D printer to build an object. This proposal aims to improve the adoption and usability of 3D Slicer by implementing an internationalization infrastructure and performing related software maintenance.3D slicers determine how a model is built and instruct the 3D printer how to print it. However, these individual efforts were missing an internationalization infrastructure, and therefore a more comprehensive effort is needed. 3D Slicer community members have contributed Slicer tutorials in Spanish and German, and worked to translate the interface to Chinese. Coupled with an admittedly complex user interface, the language barrier slows down the adoption of 3D Slicer by local clinician-scientist populations. While English is the language of science, clinical practitioners in non-English speaking countries work and communicate with their scientific colleagues in their language. However, the software is currently available in the English language only. 3D Slicer fosters the creation of biomedical research teams and its shared scientific methodology brings them together into a global community. There have been 26,883 commits from 170 developers since the development of 3D Slicer version 4 began in 2006. The platform has a worldwide community with 550 Slicer downloads per day, 10,500 posts on the Slicer Discourse Forum in the past year, 12,800 citations of 3D Slicer in Google Scholar, and over 1 million downloads since Slicer’s inception. 3D Slicer is an open source and multi-platform software package for the analysis and 3D visualization of biomedical imaging data.
